To V or Not To V...

After doing some research and lots of thinking, I was seriously considering going vegan. Living without meat is hardly a sacrifice, since I don't ever crave it or think about it much. And I already drink soy milk, love soy yogurt and ice cream, and think fruits and vegetables are supposed to be a huge part of what you consume. But I cannot give up cheese. And I think soy cheese is gross. Have you ever tried soy cheese? There must be someone out there who enjoys it, but it's hard for me to swallow. I am currently addicted to Feta cheese and can't get enough of it. The photo above is a picture of my favorite sandwich: grilled tomato and feta, with a dash of olive oil and pepper. Yum-o! And it doesn't help that friends post cheese ideas like this on their blogs. Can't wait to try it.

I've had this same internal discussion and the cheese always pulls me back. Yesterday at Whole Foods I actually smelled a package of cheddar and sighed, oh cheese...

There's a cheese shop in London that was closed when we went to look for it - I've got to find the name of it so you can add it to your London planning. It's near one of the fresh markets.

Neale Street Dairy near Covent Garden. Not near one of the vegetable markets.

My kids will put up with a lot on the food front, but I think they would turn on me if I pulled the cheese. Hell. I would turn on me. I love cheese.

Grandpa's Burger Haven has some great Vegan meals. They are at 2nd and Federal. All of the local vegans hang out there.

Try the triple cheese vegan burger.

I guess I'm not entirely well versed on vegan/vegetarian....but perhaps you could create your own version of what you eat. You don't necessarily HAVE to put yourself into a category, right? But if you don't have a desire to eat meat or dairy products (cheese excluded), then you don't have to. Perhaps you could become a cheese-atarian?

I've been a vegetarian since I was 14, but don't think I could ever go completely vegan simply because of cheese. We eat a fair amount of completely vegan meals, drink soy milk, have had vegan ice cream that's delicious, and vegan cheese that hasn't made me feel sick, but the thought of never having goat cheese or gruyere or gorgonzola again just makes me incredibly sad.
