A Change

I love blogging. It's weird, but I do. I like taking a little time each day (or every third day depending on whatever is going on in our lives) to write about what we're up to, share photos of the family, and document how we're changing and growing. I have been so thankful for this blog because I can go back months or years ago to relive memories and gasp at how small my kids appeared. I also love the people I've met through adopting from Ethiopia and blogging. (Pause for a tissue break.) Words just can't describe it. Blogging has been good to me.

But I'm ready to be more intentional in my family with certain things, and that's going to show up here. I'd like to start writing more about how I'm raising my children in our community while teaching them to be culturally sensitive. I want them to be aware of their own uniqueness and heritage and, moreover, be open to the uniqueness and heritage of those around them. Reading biographies aloud has started us on that journey, and it challenged me to look for other ways to bring the world to my kids.

I hope you stick with me. You'll still get plenty of family updates, and you'll also get my attempts at creative parenting. Really, how could you resist that?

I *love* this new direction you're heading! I feel like the cultural aspects of adoption have a tendency to get lost within the day to day process of being a family. And yet I feel like those are some of the most important lessons we should be teaching all of our children (whatever their cultural background and adopted or not).

Of course I'll be here. You're stuck with me!

well put, jayme. i think you hit the nail on the head! adoption will always be a part of who we are... how could it not? but i don't want to be stuck there. we're branching out.

I love the new direction! I've recently thought a lot about giving my blog some sort of direction as well.

Very excited to come along with you!

Also, will you email me? I had your email in my last (now hacked) account. :( tesileagh@gmail.com

Sounds so interesting, Cathy! Of course, I'll be here, and with eyes WIDE open. Like you and Tesi, I'm trying to figure out where I want my blog to go. It's become a scrapbook, which is fine by itself, but I want to add more content for my readers and to get my mind churning again.

Looking forward to reading. Since your children are a bit older than my 2 that are adopted, I look forward to learning from you as you lead your family. I want to lead my WHOLE family well in this journey!!

Still here (even though you apparently have eyes for my movie boyfriend). I love the new direction. And I love that you have direction. I have been vacillating much over the past year on my blog. Looking forward to joining you on your journey.
